Prison of Elders Review & Impressions
Well, with Destiny’s first expansion, The Dark Below, the game was given its second Raid — a high-end, high-difficulty mission that could only be completed by the best of the best. As part of its series of pre-release reveals, Bungie finally showed off the Raid’s replacement, otherwise known as the Prison of Elders. Is this new, Horde Mode-style match a worth successor — or will fans be stuck with a half-baked co-op mode until the next true Raid is released? From what Bungie has shown, longtime Destiny players should be excited.
At its core, the mode is a cooperative endurance test against wave after wave of the game’s toughest enemies. Bungie is however making sure that the mode won’t become a slog.

During the non- boss rounds, you will need to survive 3 waves of enemies and objectives to complete the round; and during boss rounds, you have to destroy the powerful boss character. The first of those experiences, Prison of Elders, is a combat arena meant to challenge even the strongest of Destiny players. While Prison of Elders has proven somewhat easy on the lower difficulty levels, the higher-level combat arenas can be challenging. Currently, this guide takes into account two of the bosses, and we will update it as more are unveiled.
Prison of Elders shakes that up, with loose objectives, four difficulty levels, and fresh content each week. Starting at level 28, Prison of Elders divides the session into 5 rounds consisting of.
For fans who want more PvE content, Bungie is answering the call. The Prison of Elders is a series of arenas where you fight off against hordes of enemies. You will battle through four rounds of differing factions of enemies and battlegrounds, with each round containing three separate waves of enemies. After the fourth round, a fifth round starts where you have to defeat one of the strike bosses in Destiny. The reward for doing so will net you unique weapons, armor, and more. There are four different versions of the Prison of Elders to select, each with their own level cap and challenge.
The base version starts at level 28 and has matchmaking to pair you with other guardians. The other three versions of the Prison of Elders are called challenges and will rotate from a pool of six different challenges. These are set at level 32, 34, and 35 and require you to have your own fireteam ready. However, these challenges have exclusive bosses and gameplay modifiers to spruce up the action.

The standard Prison of Elders is a level 28 arena that supports matchmaking. Three different tougher challenges will also be available: These do not support matchmaking, so you will have to bring 2 of your friends along to the battle.

It is limited to 3 players. The Level 28 mission includes matchmaking and is always random. The other three “challenge” missions are at Levels 32, 34, and 35, and require pre-made fireteams.
I’ve never done the raids and I guess I’ll probably never do higher than lvl 28 Prison of Elders which means I’ll probably never make lvl Bungie should fix this before “fixing” weapons that aren’t broken.
By Dalton Cooper 3 years ago report this ad The Destiny experience as it is today would be hardly recognizable to someone that only played the game at launch. Unfortunately, while Bungie does a pretty good job at listening to their fans for the most part, there is one issue that they seemingly refuse to budge on, and that is matchmaking. Months after the introduction of raids in Destiny, and there is still no matchmaking.
Fans cooled on this particular issue, but now Bungie has drawn their ire yet again, this time regarding a new gameplay mode added in the House of Wolves expansion. The new mode in question is the horde mode-like Prison of Elders , a co-op PvE experience that, much like the raids, suffers from a severe matchmaking deficiency. While the level 28 version of Prison of Elders has matchmaking, the higher level versions of the mode do not. After staying silent on the subject for a couple of weeks, Bungie community manager Deej has finally issued a statement in regards to fan demand for Prison of Elders matchmaking.
After all, raid matchmaking was even discussed at one point, but nothing ever came of it. Bungie has been fairly stubborn about adding matchmaking to both the raids and Prison of Elders, and while their reasoning makes sense in some regards, matchmaking would still be a nice option to have.

Taken enemies are variations of the existing enemies seen in other parts of the game as a whole, but have a darker, undead -like appearance, and have new abilities and attacks. All participants in Court of Oryx battles receive rewards, but the player who initiated the battle will receive higher-valued rewards. The runes correspond to three difficulty levels, ranging from easier fights to “just below Nightfall”. Each focuses on an element that had not been represented among each class’s preexisting sub-classes, and features a new super ability.
The Hunter class’s new Void-based sub-class “Nightstalker” includes a bow-like super known as the “Shadowshot” that tethers enemies together, limiting movement and preventing enemies from using abilities for a short time. The Titan’s “Sunbreaker” sub-class features a solar-based super, the “Hammer of Sol”, creating a flaming hammer that can be thrown at enemies, or used for close-quarters combat.
The Warlock’s new sub-class, the arc-based “Stormcaller” includes the super “Stormtrance”, which produces lightning bolts that chains between enemies.

A new heavy weapon was introduced, a sword, which has new mechanics from the swords that can be used during certain Hive missions. Three new strikes were added and three Year One strikes were revised to include the Taken race in addition to the other enemies. A Digital Collector’s Edition was also available. Year One players received commemorative items when purchasing The Taken King.
From the updated Prison of Elders to a new Light level cap, there are tons of new things to look for when starting up the game. Note that all of this content requires Destiny’s “Taken King.
It makes for an interesting challenge, and the rewards you can get are pretty awesome. Your participation is limited, too, once you hit three losses or nine wins, your current run ends. Again, you can get some really impressive rewards from this mode, so the competition is fierce. You can also get Exotic Marks from your Faction-specific quest. Just select the appropriate mission from the map and choose the Heroic version.
There are side quests that you can complete, too; things like forging an Exotic sword heavy weapon, earning your place in the Sparrow Racing League, and completing tasks here and there for Amanda Halliday all reward you with cool gear and are fun to complete. The Challenge of Elders is especially great; each week, new modifiers are applied and bonus point categories are established.
